St. Martins at the Philadelphia Cricket Club retains a remarkable physical connection with the 1907 and 1910 U. S. Opens. The present course has nine holes, but several holes and green complexes from the former 18-hole championship layout survive.
History
A nine-hole course opened in 1895. Willie Tucker laid out a new 18-hole course in 1897, with later evolution involving club members A. W. Tillinghast and George Thomas. St. Martins hosted two U. S. Opens before being reduced to nine holes in 1924 after the club developed Wissahickon.
Architecture
Official club research identifies strong continuity in holes 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9 and the sixth green complex. The Atlas should therefore preserve a separate historical 18-hole routing without suggesting that all 18 holes remain playable today.
Club experience
The current nine-hole profile should hold present-day services. This new record is a non-bookable historical version used for championship collections and linked explicitly to the current St. Martins course.
