Yokohama Country Club

West Course holds a significant place in Kanagawa golf. A historic course recently transformed. Located in Yokohama, in the Kanagawa region, this course is set within a wooded park where fairways are laid out among trees, bunkers, and water features. It should be presented not merely as a destination, but as a unique Japanese golf experience, with its history, architectural choices, relationship with the landscape, and the decisions it demands from the player. The Round selects West Course for its architectural, historical, or territorial value in the World Golf Atlas. West Course is located in Yokohama, in the Kanagawa region of Japan. The course unfolds within a wooded park, where the lines of play are drawn amidst trees, bunkers, and water hazards. This geographical reading must be complemented by the exact nature of the soil, the altitude, the prevailing exposure, the winds, the vegetation, the visible landscapes, and the influence of the seasons on playing conditions.

Founded in 1958, Yokohama opened its East and West courses in 1960. Takeo Aiyama and Hideo Takemura designed the originals; Coore & Crenshaw completely rebuilt the West between 2014 and 2016.

The course utilizes its parkland environment to shape angles, hazards, and green approaches. West Course features 18 holes, with a par of 72, and measures approximately 6500 meters from the championship tees.
