Winged Foot West — A. W. Tillinghast at his most demanding

The course is located in Mamaroneck, north of New York, on a wooded, undulating, and relatively compact piece of land.

Opened in 1923, Winged Foot’s West Course was designed by A. W. Tillinghast and became the club’s principal championship venue.

Large plateau greens, deep bunkers and exacting fairway angles create severe approach play.

The West is long, heavy, and particularly demanding around the greens. The surfaces appear accessible but repel many approach shots.

The club is private and deeply committed to its championship culture, boasting two very high-caliber courses.
