Sunningdale Old — Willie Park Jr. bringing strategic golf to Surrey heathland

The course meanders through heather, pine forests, and sandy terrain to the west of London. The topography is distinctive yet flowing, offering numerous vistas of the Surrey Hills.

The Old Course at Sunningdale opened in 1901, designed by Willie Park Jr. It swiftly established itself as a quintessential English heathland course and has since hosted a multitude of amateur and professional competitions.

Park's design masterfully employs diagonal bunkering, sloping fairways, and greens that are open from specific approach angles. While the holes are separated by the heath, they maintain a remarkable coherence.

The course is elegant, diverse, and generally less demanding than the New Course. The famous par-3 10th hole plays from an elevated tee to a green framed by dense heather.

Sunningdale provides a highly traditional club experience, complete with caddies, a renowned lunch service, and access to two world-class golf courses.
