Sallandsche De Hoek — Frank Spalding’s historic nine expanded into a complete course by Donald Steel

The course is located near Deventer, in a wooded parkland landscape, featuring pines, heather, and more open areas. The terrain distinctly changes character between the older holes and the added sections.

Sallandsche Golfclub De Hoek was founded in 1934 on the De Hoek estate near Diepenveen. Frank Spalding designed the first nine-hole course on a sandy parkland and heathland terrain. Nearly sixty years later, Donald Steel extended and reorganized the site to create eighteen holes.

The historical holes make greater use of trees and natural heathland forms. Steel's expansion opens up play, adds length, and creates a second loop that returns towards the clubhouse.

The course measures just over 6,000 meters for a par 72. Both nines conclude with a par 3 close to the clubhouse, which provides a very clear structure.

Sallandsche is a traditional members' club, known for its atmosphere and its location on an ancient estate. Visitors are welcome subject to availability.

The Round selects it because it clearly illustrates the evolution of Dutch golf: from a historic nine-hole heathland course towards a modern layout without a complete break from its origins.
