Le Lion stretches along the edge of the Battle of Waterloo battlefield, offering several views of the Lion's Mound. The terrain is more open and exposed than La Marache.

The plan for a new championship course was adopted in 1980. Le Lion combines holes from the former C and D courses with new sequences designed by Paul Rolin. Martin Hawtree entirely redesigned the course in 2014 and 2015.

The modern course features long fairways, strategic bunkering, water-protected greens, and generous teeing areas. Martin Hawtree's redesign enhanced the angles and putting surfaces.

At approximately 6,400 meters for a par 72, Le Lion is long and demanding. The first three holes—a par 5, a par 4, and a par 3—immediately require both power and precision.

Le Lion accommodates a broader range of player profiles than La Marache and benefits from all the facilities of the Royal Waterloo Golf Club.

Created in 1980; initial design associated with Paul Rolin; entirely redesigned by Martin Hawtree in 2014-2015; views of the Lion's Mound; former host of the Laurent Perrier Open.
