The course is situated in Walloon Brabant, near the battlefield of Waterloo, amidst open meadows, woodlands, valleys, and expansive agricultural vistas.

Royal Waterloo was founded in 1923 and relocated to Ohain in 1961. Fred Hawtree designed La Marache in 1960 on the club's new grounds. Between 2003 and 2006, Martin Hawtree redesigned and rebuilt the greens and bunkers to USGA standards.

La Marache is a championship parkland course: wide but strategically angled fairways, deep bunkers, large greens, and a more pronounced elevation on the back nine. Martin Hawtree's modifications enhanced the putting surfaces without erasing his father's original design.

The course boasts a par 73 and spans over 6,200 meters. The front nine is more open, while the back nine becomes more wooded, undulating, and at times blind.

The club offers forty-five holes, a driving range, an academy, and a restaurant with views of La Marache. Access to the main course is reserved for external players with a sufficiently low handicap.

The Round selects it as one of the kingdom's great championship courses, for its balance and history of international tournaments.

Designed by Fred Hawtree in 1960; club settled in Ohain in 1961; greens and bunkers renovated by Martin Hawtree between 2003 and 2006; several Belgian Opens and international events.
