Sandy Hills Links — Pat Ruddy’s championship course through Rosapenna’s high dunes

Sandy Hills traverses a series of high dunes overlooking Sheephaven Bay. The holes are often separated from one another by ridges, giving the course a natural, corridor-like feel.

Rosapenna developed Sandy Hills as the resort's second major course. Pat Ruddy designed the layout, which opened in 2003. The project aimed for a more demanding and modern test than the Old Tom Morris Links, utilizing the elevated dunes located between the hotel and the bay.

Enclosed fairways, visually strong bunkers and greens set into dune shoulders create a dense corridor-style links. The course offers more width than first appears, but only from informed angles.

The succession of dune corridors protects the player from the wind on some shots, then abruptly exposes them on the ridges. Approaches are often more difficult than tee shots, as the greens feature narrow entrances and pronounced slopes.

All Rosapenna facilities are available, allowing Sandy Hills to be combined naturally with St Patrick’s and the Old Tom Morris Links.
