Geography & setting
The Red & White Course is located in Soiano del Lago, in the Lombardy region of Italy. The course unfolds within a wooded park where playing lines are shaped by trees, bunkers, and water features, complemented by undulating terrain that introduces numerous sloping lies and elevation changes. This geographical reading must be further enhanced by detailing the exact nature of the soils, the altitude, the dominant exposure, prevailing winds, vegetation, visible landscapes, and the influence of seasons on playing conditions.
History
Construction began in 1984 and the Red and White nines opened in 1986; the Yellow nine followed in 1990. GardaGolf hosted the Italian Open in 1997, 2003 and 2018.
Architecture
Cotton, Pennink, Steel & Partners and Golf & Gardens created 27 holes across 110 hectares. The Red follows rolling moraine slopes, while the White uses flatter parkland, woodland and substantial water hazards.
The course in detail
The course features 18 holes, a par of 72, and measures approximately 6350 meters from the championship tees. The course skillfully utilizes its parkland/hillside environment to define angles, obstacles, and approaches to the greens.
Club experience
The clubhouse, restaurant and academy frame a tournament venue whose championship bunkers entered a major renovation in 2024.
