Laranjal — a former orange grove transformed into Quinta do Lago’s most intimate course
Geography & setting
The course occupies the former Quinta de Laranjal, situated in the Ludo valley. Orange groves, umbrella pines, cork oaks, and five lakes shape a landscape that feels more inland compared to the courses closer to the Ria Formosa.
History
Laranjal opened in 2009, designed by Portuguese architect Jorge Santana da Silva. Located approximately two kilometers from the heart of the resort, it complements the North and South courses with a more contemporary identity.
Architecture
Santana da Silva capitalized on the existing undulations rather than creating dramatic terrain. The fairways are clearly defined, the greens well-articulated, and water primarily serves as a strategic hazard.
The course in detail
This par 72 course alternates between tree-lined corridors and more open spaces. The green surfaces are known for their speed and consistency, while the final par 5 presents multiple strategic decisions involving water.
Club experience
Laranjal benefits from the facilities of Quinta do Lago, including the Performance Centre, the academy, dining options, accommodations, and The Campus.
