Prairie Dunes — Perry and Press Maxwell giving Kansas dunes an inland-links character

The site is located near Hutchinson, amid sand dunes covered with tall grasses and yuccas. The open landscape evokes an inland links.

Prairie Dunes opened its first nine holes in 1937, based on a design by Perry Maxwell. Twenty years later, his son Press Maxwell added nine more holes to complete the course.

Maxwell employed undulating greens, winding fairways, natural bunkers, and angles influenced by the wind. Press Maxwell’s extension remarkably blends with the original work.

The course is firm, exposed, and constantly changing. The visual width often disguises landing areas that are considerably more precise.

The private club is recognised for championship culture and an unforced natural environment.
