Portmarnock — the great peninsula links where balance matters more than spectacle

Portmarnock occupies a narrow spit of dunes north of Dublin, surrounded by water on three sides and conveniently located near the airport.

The club was founded in 1894 on the coastal lands of the Jameson family. A nine-hole course opened in December 1894, and the course quickly expanded to eighteen holes with the help of Mungo Park and George Coburn.

Regular changes of direction, firm turf and bunkers set for prevailing winds create one of golf’s most balanced championship routings.

The terrain is less mountainous than many Irish links, but the firm conditions, wind, and exposed nature provide a constant test.

The experience is that of a classic championship club, more understated than overtly tourist-focused, offering exceptional proximity to Dublin.
