Penha Longa Atlantic — Robert Trent Jones Jr. in Sintra’s historic hills

The course unfolds amidst the hills of Sintra, traversing forests, rocky outcrops, valleys, and offering views towards the Atlantic.

The Atlantic Championship Course opened in 1992, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. It forms part of a historic estate featuring a former monastery and centuries of heritage.

Jones Jr. made extensive use of the natural topography, incorporating carries, elevated greens, and changes in direction. The layout is spectacular but demands careful management of elevation changes.

The course is physically demanding, with significant ascents and descents. Several holes provide expansive views of the mountains and the coastline.

The Ritz-Carlton hotel, spa, gastronomy, heritage and practice complete the resort.
