Pacific Dunes — Tom Doak allowing Oregon cliffs and dunes to dictate the course

The course hugs the Oregon coastline, nestled among cliffs, dunes, heathland, Pacific winds, and low-lying vegetation.

Pacific Dunes opened in 2001, two years after the resort's inaugural course. Mike Keiser entrusted the design to Tom Doak, who sought minimal intervention and a routing entirely dictated by the natural terrain.

Doak employed irregular fairways, natural bunkers, open greens, and an unconventional par order. The coastal sequence follows the topography without striving for artificial symmetry.

The course is firm, exposed, and highly variable.

Pacific Dunes is part of the pedestrian-friendly Bandon resort, offering caddies, accommodations, restaurants, and several world-class courses.
