Openbare Golfclub Dronten

: a surprising wooded and rolling course created on Dronten’s former landfill.

Openbare Golfclub Dronten opened in 2009 on a former landfill site. That difficult origin became its greatest landscape advantage: existing elevation allowed rolling fairways and views that are rare in the surrounding polder. The club developed as an accessible public venue, independent from the neighbouring Golf Residentie. In 2015, Leading Courses readers selected it as the Netherlands’ best hidden nine-hole gem. New tees introduced in 2026 allow the second circuit to play from different angles and distances. The course lies about seven kilometres from central Dronten. Former landfill contours now support mature vegetation, tree belts and meaningful elevation. Wind affects the higher areas and clearings, while woodland protects other holes. The landscape feels far more vertical than most Flevoland courses.

Fairways climb, descend and turn between planting. Doglegs and elevation changes require decisions before each tee shot. Alternative tees make the second circuit genuinely different. Greens are relatively small and reward precision. The course’s architectural value lies less in length than in creative use of reclaimed land. Played twice, it becomes a complete round with varied teeing angles. Slopes create uneven lies and semi-blind shots. Trees and rough punish lateral errors. The course is short but rarely simple, especially in wind on the higher ground.

OGD promotes a public, informal and welcoming atmosphere. Clubhouse, shop, practice facilities and group packages make it practical for different users. The club also cooperates with the neighbouring Golf Residentie. For The Round, it suits a relaxed round, an unusual polder experience or a corporate activity.
