Oakland Hills South — Donald Ross restored to recover its championship scale

The course is located in Bloomfield Hills, near Detroit, on undulating, open, and wind-exposed terrain.

Opened in 1918, the South Course was designed by Donald Ross, heavily altered by Robert Trent Jones Sr. before the 1951 U. S. Open and restored by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner by 2021.

Ross created large fairway movements and complex greens. The recent restoration widens the sightlines, reinstates historical bunkers and angles, and improves the visibility of the terrain.

The course is long and powerful, but the restored width puts strategy back at the center, rather than simply punishing with rough.

Oakland Hills is a private championship club with two courses, a rich heritage, and great ambitions for hosting future events.
