Noordwijkse Golfclub

Noordwijkse — a great modern dune course born after the loss of the historic first links

The current course occupies a vast dune landscape north of Noordwijk, close to the North Sea. It alternates between open dunes, sandy valleys, and some sections within a denser pine forest.

The first Noordwijkse Golfclub was established at the beginning of the 20th century near the Noordwijk lighthouse. Its course was developed, then almost entirely destroyed during the Second World War and the occupation of the coast. Subsequent urban growth made its retention impossible. The club moved to a new dune site, and a course designed by Frank Pennink opened in 1972.

Pennink utilized wide natural corridors, subtly artificial bunkers, and greens nestled into the terrain's folds. The course is more modern than Kennemer or Royal Hague but retains a true links quality in its relationship to the ground and the wind.

The holes vary in scale between grand dunes and forested passages. The relief is pronounced, the walk physically demanding, and the greens often exposed. Several Dutch Opens have confirmed its championship capabilities.

Noordwijkse offers a historical coastal club experience on a modern course, with a strong commitment to the dune landscape and biodiversity.

The Round selects it because it demonstrates that a great continental links can be created in the 20th century without artificially imitating older courses.

First active club from 1915; former course destroyed during the war; current Frank Pennink course opened in 1972; hosted several Dutch Opens.
