Lundin Golf Club

Lundin Links is a par 71 of about 5,825 metres combining two characters in one round: five classic seaside links holes, nine inland holes designed by James Braid, then four returning to the coast. The present configuration was completed in 1909.

Organised golf on the shared Leven and Lundin links developed during the nineteenth century, with a common eighteen-hole extension in 1868. Growing traffic led to separation at the Mile Dyke in 1909. Lundin secured land north of the old railway and appointed James Braid to create nine new holes. Despite modern adjustments, the course remains close to that century-old structure. The opening follows Largo Bay with views over the Firth of Forth and East Lothian. After the fifth, players cross the former railway into higher ground combining heathland and parkland. The finish crosses back to the links. This geographic transition produces unusual variety.

The first five use firm fairways, links bunkers and beach proximity. Braid’s nine exploit slopes, trees and stronger doglegs. The old railway embankment and internal out of bounds on both sides form a rare constraint. The eighteenth, with boundary tight to the left of the green, creates a nervous conclusion. The blue card measures about 6,371 yards, or 5,825 metres, at par 71. Ground response changes by section: firm and running beside the sea, softer and more tree-lined inland. Sloping lies require different control from tight links turf. Firth wind nevertheless influences the whole property.

Lundin is a welcoming members’ club with a bay-view clubhouse, dining, professional shop and practice. Visitors receive detailed information, flyovers and scorecards. The village and proximity to Leven, Elie and St Andrews make it easy to include in a Fife itinerary.

Play it for a course that physically records the separation of two ancient links. The passage from beach to Braid’s inland nine and back to the sea creates rare within-round diversity.
