Le Touquet Golf Resort

La Mer is Le Touquet’s signature course: a championship links cut through wild dunes, exposed to wind and ranked among continental Europe’s leading layouts.

Opened in 1931, La Mer was created by Harry Colt, one of Europe’s most influential golf architects. It hosted major national and international competition and built Le Touquet’s sporting reputation. After wartime damage and later alterations, Frank Pont led a major restoration to recover strategic width, bunker character and the original dune identity. The course occupies a dune system between Le Touquet forest and the English Channel. Marram grass, sand, natural valleys and open horizons define the landscape. Wind is constant and can completely change distance and ball flight. Sandy soil supports firm bounce and year-round play.

Colt used width, diagonal strategy and natural contour rather than heavy artificial hazards. Bunkers defend aggressive routes, while raised or sloping greens demand depth control. Modern restoration reinstated angles and views that had gradually disappeared. The current official version measures about 6,368 metres and plays to par 71. Long par fours, exposed par fives and strongly defended par threes create variety. Wind makes strategy more important than power alone.

La Mer belongs to a 45-hole resort with a four-star hotel, restaurants, practice, pro shop, meeting rooms and two complementary courses.
