Lahinch Old Course — Old Tom Morris and Alister MacKenzie imagination in the Clare dunes

The course traverses large dunes on the County Clare coast, on the edge of Liscannor Bay. The Atlantic wind and natural slopes dominate the experience.

The club was founded in 1892. Old Tom Morris quickly improved the course, and then Alister MacKenzie undertook the transformation in 1926-1927 that largely defined the current layout. Martin Hawtree led a restoration at the end of the 20th century.

MacKenzie utilized elevated greens, bunkers blended into the dunes, and diagonal entries. The famous Klondyke and Dell holes retain a part of the original eccentricity.

The course alternates between power and subtlety. Some holes require carrying over or skirting around dunes, while others reward a perfectly placed running approach shot.

Lahinch combines a historic club with a lively coastal town and a strong County Clare identity.
