Geography & setting
The course occupies an Andalusian hilltop overlooking Sotogrande, with views towards the Mediterranean, the Rock of Gibraltar and, on clear days, North Africa. The topography dictates significant elevation changes.
History
La Reserva Club opened its course in 2003. Cabell B. Robinson was tasked with creating a championship layout capable of extending Sotogrande's golfing heritage while giving the new development a more contemporary identity.
Architecture
Robinson designed wide fairways, expansive undulating greens, clearly visible bunkers, and several water hazards. The width offers options, but the best line often requires challenging a slope or a bunker.
The course in detail
The par 72 measures over 6,700 meters from the back tees. Several tee shots descend spectacularly, while approaches to the large greens demand a very precise reading of the slopes.
Club experience
La Reserva combines golf, a clubhouse, dining, tennis, padel, an indoor beach club, and high-end residences within a modern vision of Sotogrande.
Highlights
Opened in 2003; designed by Cabell B. Robinson; hosted the 2014 NH Collection Open and the Aramco Team Series.
