Golfpark De Haenen

: a contemporary course combining heath, woodland, water and landscape art near Breda.

De Haenen opened in the late 2000s as one of the Breda region’s more ambitious modern golf projects. Alan Rijks designed the main course within a property deliberately combining nature, art and golf. Sculptures and artistic elements later became part of the landscape identity. Over time, maturing planting, improved drainage and renewed playing surfaces strengthened the course’s coherence. The club hosts competition, welcomes green-fee players under published conditions and relies on an active membership culture that contributes to maintenance, coaching and the identity of the venue. The course lies in a landscape of sand, heath, pine and wet areas. Natural forms and water create the impression of a property older than its opening date. The landscape is more than scenery: it influences ball flight, bounce, fairway firmness and distance perception. Wind, vegetation and soil conditions give the course a different character across the seasons.

Rijks uses width, irregular bunkering and diagonal lines. Greens are large enough for varied hole locations, while hazards require planning from the previous shot. The architecture rewards position, angle and continuity. A conservative route usually exists, but it leaves a longer or less open next shot. Greens are easiest to attack from the correct side of the fairway. The course rewards creativity and use of contour. Wind and heather rough give several sequences a genuine heathland character. The course has 18 holes, plays to par 72 and measures about 6050 metres from its reference tees. Multiple tee sets adapt the challenge without removing the strategic decisions.

The experience combines golf, art, nature and dining. Reception spaces make the venue attractive for Round events. Clubhouse, dining and practice facilities extend the day beyond the course.
