Golfclub Zeewolde – Aak: une boucle de doglegs et de lignes boisées across a large parkland created on the former floor of the Zuiderzee.

Golfclub Zeewolde opened in the mid-1990s in Flevoland, on land reclaimed from the former Zuiderzee. From the beginning the project was unusual in scale: roughly 120 hectares, several named loops and a clear ambition to create a nature-based club rather than a basic polder facility. Aak, Botter and Pluut form the 27-hole championship core. They can be combined in different pairs for 18-hole rounds while retaining separate identities. As trees matured, the once-open young landscape developed into a quiet parkland setting. Water management, planting and course improvement have remained central to the club’s evolution. The course lies around three metres below sea level on land that did not exist before reclamation. It borders one of the largest planted deciduous forests in the Netherlands. Woodland, meadow, water and natural corridors create strong separation from surrounding development. Water birds, raptors, foxes and deer are regularly seen. Wind remains influential on open sections, while mature trees provide shelter elsewhere. Polder soils require careful drainage and the lakes serve both ecological and strategic functions.

The Aak loop is one of three full-length nine-hole courses that can be combined freely. Doglegs, tree-lined fairways, water and bunkering shape the strategy. Direction changes ensure that wind affects each sequence differently. Apparent width from the tee often hides a preferred landing side, and driving position strongly affects visibility and the entrance angle to the green. Multiple tees maintain accessibility, while the back markers demand length and controlled shot shape. Aak plays to par 36 at approximately 3000 metres. Paired with either of the other championship loops, it creates a full par-72 round. Doglegs repeatedly ask players to balance position and distance. Fairways appear generous, but water, trees and boundary rough reduce the margin for error. Greens can become fast in dry conditions and provide varied hole locations. Walking is comfortable, with short transitions and a strong sense of landscape continuity.

Zeewolde is a large member club that also welcomes visitors by reservation. Different loop combinations reduce repetition and offer operational flexibility for competitions and groups. Clubhouse dining, practice facilities and the shorter Jol course complete the experience. For The Round, the venue offers high event capacity, central access and a surprisingly secluded natural environment.
