Houtrak — Gerard Jol’s star-shaped course between open polder, woodland and large greens

The course is situated between Amsterdam, Haarlem, and the North Sea Canal. Approximately one-third of the terrain is wooded, with the remainder featuring open polder, water, and gently undulating areas.

Houtrak came into being in the early 1990s when players from Spaarnwoude sought to establish their own championship course. The club opened in 1996 on 83 hectares of the Houtrakpolder, with a design by Gerard Jol. It subsequently hosted events on the Challenge Tour.

The star-shaped routing sees several holes radiating out from the clubhouse, allowing views of six holes from the terrace. Jol designed a playable course for various handicaps, featuring generous greens, water hazards, and clearly visible bunkers.

The course is long, exposed to the wind, and generally in excellent condition. The par-3 14th hole and the highly undulating 18th green are its most recognised features.

Houtrak offers a central clubhouse, a strong member culture, reservable tee times, and convenient proximity to Amsterdam and Haarlem.

The Round selects Houtrak for its intelligent routing, quality of maintenance, and its ability to serve both club golfers and competitive play.
