De Dommel — Colt’s historic Zegenwerp core expanded across several architectural eras
Geography & setting
The course follows the natural landscape around the river Dommel, featuring woods, sandy soils, gently undulating fairways, and a more open section on the new holes.
History
Golfclub De Dommel was founded in 1928 on the Zegenwerp estate, at the initiative of C. G. J. van Lanschot. Harry Colt designed the first nine holes, which officially opened in 1930. Three additional holes were added in 1984. Six new holes by Frank Pont opened in 2014, finally bringing the course to eighteen holes.
Architecture
Colt's original holes feature subtle angles, understated bunkers, and greens with character. The extensions had to respect a fragmented site and connect different eras without erasing the historical identity.
The course in detail
The round clearly alternates between the old, intimate, and wooded section, and the more open new holes. This variety makes the course less homogeneous but very rich to interpret.
Club experience
De Dommel remains one of the historical clubs in the Netherlands, set within a natural estate with a strong member culture.
Why play this course
The Round selects it for its authentic Colt core and for the way the club has evolved to eighteen holes without losing its history.
