Almeerderhout — a large Flevoland course shaped by water, wind and more than one hundred bunkers

The course occupies approximately 120 hectares in the south of Flevoland, on land reclaimed from the water. The three nine-hole loops alternate between open areas, woodlands, water features, and expansive views.

The project began in 1983 around Eric Citroen. Joan Dudok van Heel designed the initial eighteen holes; construction started in 1987, and the club was officially opened by Prince Claus on September 10, 1988. A new nine-hole loop designed by Bruno Steensels later completed the course.

The design combines length, numerous doglegs, 113 bunkers, and omnipresent water. The terrain is relatively flat, but the polder wind and changes in direction create true variety.

The Gooimeer, Markermeer, and IJmeer loops can be combined. The course is long and requires managing exposure as much as physical obstacles.

Almeerderhout is a large members' club with twenty-seven holes, a nine-hole par 3 course, driving range, restaurant, and a strong focus on nature.

The Round selects it as a successful example of golf on reclaimed land, where water and wind give the course its full identity.
