Golfbaan Dorhout Mees

: a links-style nine-hole course designed to provide a true 18-hole experience through fully differentiated tees.

Dorhout Mees has long operated as an outdoor activity destination at Biddinghuizen. Its golf offer was completely redesigned in the early 2020s. Michiel van der Vaart, working with Andrew Cude, created a new nine-hole course officially opened in 2021. The central innovation was eighteen distinct teeing areas, allowing the second circuit to change angle, length and visual perception. This approach delivers a complete round on a compact footprint while supporting the hotel, brasserie, shooting and event activities. The course occupies a Flevoland landscape of water, sandy mounds, trees and meadow. The sea is not nearby, yet openness, wind and shaping create an inland links atmosphere. Water features occupy the lower ground and accompany several fairways. Planting separates holes without making the environment fully enclosed.

The eighteen-tee system is the design’s defining feature. The same fairways and greens are approached from different directions on the second circuit. Some tees significantly alter carry, visibility and the relationship with water. Bunkers, mounds and shaped greens reinforce the links-style aesthetic. The course remains accessible to beginners, while experienced players must focus on position rather than length alone. The loop measures about 2,794 metres for nine holes. Played from both tee sets, it reaches roughly 5,588 metres and par 72. Wind, water and changing angles make the second circuit meaningfully different. Fairways are fairly open, but preferred landing zones remain precise. Greens require good depth control. Walking is easy and the format works well for groups.

Dorhout Mees combines golf with hotel accommodation, brasserie dining and outdoor activities. Players can add clay shooting, archery or an overnight stay. Group packages are central to the business model. For The Round, the property is especially relevant for corporate days, introductions to golf and multi-activity weekends.
