History
Golfhorst opened in 1997 near the village of America. The main 18-hole course is complemented by a short nine-hole layout. Its defining feature is a shaped hill where several holes climb and descend, creating terrain very different from Dutch polder golf. Northern Limburg countryside surrounds the property. About six holes use the main elevation. Views open across farmland, while lower areas are more influenced by water and planting. Dutch Limburg occupies a unique place in the country’s golf geography. Its hills, valleys and varied soils create sightlines and ball flights that are impossible on northern polder courses. The region’s proximity to Belgium and Germany also gives its clubs a naturally cross-border membership and visitor culture.
Architecture
The design offsets moderate length with elevation, doglegs and greens that can be difficult from the wrong angle. Sloping holes require accurate distance judgement. The relationship between tee, landing area and green is therefore more important than apparent width. Architects use slopes to create uphill, downhill and uneven-lie shots without making every hole depend on raw length. The course plays to par 70 at about 5,098 metres. It appears short, but climbs, descents and sloping lies add difficulty. The hill makes walking more physical.
Club experience
The club offers practice, coaching, dining and a short course. Proximity to Sevenum and leisure accommodation supports group days. Local hospitality—terraces, dining, accommodation and access to historic towns—extends the day beyond the final green. A visit can easily form part of a multi-day stay in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion. Opened in 1997; 18 holes, par 70; about 5,098 metres; elevation up to roughly thirty-five metres; separate short course.
