Vidauban — Robert Trent Jones Sr. ’s most personal project in the Plaine des Maures

The course is hidden in the heart of the Massif des Maures, near the Plaine des Maures natural reserve. Umbrella pines, cypress trees, rock outcrops, dry valleys, and expansive views structure an almost entirely preserved environment.

discovered the site in the 1970s and acquired a vast Provençal property with the ambition of creating a major golf complex. After many years of studies and administrative difficulties, the course opened in the early 1990s and then became a very exclusive private club. His sons and the RTJ II team subsequently continued to make improvements.

Jones designed a spacious, natural, and highly strategic course, featuring wide fairways divided by bunkers, greens open on certain sides, and diagonal lines that reward controlled audacity.

The terrain alternates between rocky plateaus, descents, valleys, and wooded areas. The sense of isolation is complete, and the holes unfold without visible urbanization.

Vidauban operates strictly for its members and their guests. The level of privacy, meticulous preparation, and the absence of real estate development around the course are integral to the experience.

The Round selects it as one of continental Europe's great private works, where Robert Trent Jones' vision is expressed without commercial compromise.
