Valcros — Fred Hawtree following the Maravenne stream through a hidden Maures valley

The course spans approximately fifty hectares in La Londe-les-Maures, nestled at the foot of the Massif des Maures. It follows the Maravenne river amidst cork oaks, olive trees, oleanders, and Mediterranean hills.

Golf de Valcros was established in the mid-1960s on what was formerly an agricultural and mining estate. Fred Hawtree was tasked with fitting eighteen holes into a narrow valley; the first fourteen holes opened in 1965 before the full course was completed.

Hawtree respected the existing topography, limiting extensive earthworks and strategically placing bunkers and greens to complement the valley's natural contours. The close proximity between greens and tees maintains a British rhythm, despite the Provençal setting.

The fairways are frequently narrowed by slopes and trees. The holes may appear short but demand uphill shots, angled lies, and excellent mastery of doglegs.

Valcros is a member's club featuring a driving range, pro-shop, and clubhouse, set in a tranquil environment close to the Var coast, yet without the feel of a large resort.

The Round selects it for its understated Mediterranean character and the ingenious way Hawtree transformed a narrow valley into a cohesive course.
