Sperone — Robert Trent Jones above Bonifacio’s white cliffs and turquoise sea

The course is located ten minutes from Bonifacio, nestled between maquis scrubland, limestone plateaus, cliffs, and views towards the Lavezzi Islands and Sardinia. The sea wind and the rugged topography significantly alter conditions between holes.

The Sperone estate was developed under the impetus of Jacques Dewez. After creating the marine village of Ciappili in the 1970s, he continued his project with a golf course. Sperone was inaugurated in 1990, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. , and integrated into an exceptional natural site in the far south of Corsica.

organized the course into several distinct environments: holes within the maquis, more wooded inland sequences, and a spectacular finale in contact with the sea. The bunkers and greens follow the natural contours of the land rather than imposing a uniform geometry.

The 16th hole is its signature: a par 5 where the tee shot can cross a stretch of turquoise sea. However, the course is not defined solely by this image; changes in elevation and swirling winds defend several less-photographed holes.

Sperone offers a Mediterranean experience distinctly different from the major clubs on the mainland. The clubhouse, dining options, and proximity to Bonifacio give the visit a strong sense of a destination.

The Round selects it for its absolutely unique identity: a magnificent Corsican course where architecture, sea, maquis, and light form an unmistakable whole.
