Golf Santander — Rees Jones and Seve Ballesteros turning a former landfill into championship golf

The course is situated west of Madrid on open, undulating, and exposed terrain. Thousands of trees and shrubs have been introduced to reconstruct a natural environment.

Golf Santander opened in 2005 in Boadilla del Monte. Rees Jones collaborated with Seve Ballesteros to design a championship course on a rehabilitated former landfill site, complemented by an extensive planting program.

Jones designed a long layout, stretching nearly 7,000 meters from the back tees, featuring 68 bunkers, large greens, and several water hazards. The various tee platforms make the course adaptable to different skill levels.

Its length and exposure to wind make it a serious test. The expansive spaces evoke a sense of freedom, yet the bunkers precisely segment the playing areas.

The Banco Santander training campus setting includes practice, academy and high-level clubhouse facilities.
