Golf d’Étretat

Étretat — a historic seaside course set eighty metres above the white cliffs of Normandy

The course occupies the plateau above the Falaise d'Aval, in the immediate vicinity of the Aiguille and the Manneporte. Located approximately eighty meters above the English Channel, it combines maritime views, farmland, and chalk cliffs.

Created in 1908 by British summer visitors, Étretat’s early holes were associated with Julien Chantepie and Open champion Arnaud Massy before later expansion and redesign.

Open clifftop ground, changing wind and natural plateau contours create a course that is different from a conventional dune links.

Several holes run alongside or directly overlook the cliffs, but others extend inland. This alternation prevents the course from being merely a succession of views. Conditions can quickly change from manageable to very severe when the wind picks up.

The clubhouse terrace offers one of French golf’s great views, while the course remains accessible and close to the centre of Étretat.
