At a glance
Prieuré West is the longer, more spacious course, with strong par fours, raised turtle-back greens and a back nine offering more birdie chances.
History
West was created alongside East in 1963 by Fred Hawtree. It lies across the road, reached by a bridge from the range. The two layouts were conceived as complements: East more rolling and technical, West longer and defined by green defence.
The course crosses Vexin woodland and meadow on gentler terrain than East. Forest directs play and protects from noise, while open sectors allow wind. Distance from the clubhouse creates isolation.
Architecture
A long opening par three is followed by five difficult holes. The back nine contains three relatively short par fives. Greens are small, raised and turtle-backed in typical Hawtree style. Bunkers and forest rough punish wide shots.
FFGolf publishes 6,235 metres, par 72, SSS 73. 7 and Slope 133. The club’s normal reference is 6,148 metres. Long opening par fours and elevated greens require both power and accuracy.
Club experience
West shares the private country-club facilities and sits close to the range and training centre. Weekday visitors are accepted under licence and handicap conditions.
