Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche

The Blue is Saint-Nom’s founding course, slightly more welcoming than the Red but still defined by fast greens, doglegs and demanding position.

Opened in 1959, the Blue was the first Fred Hawtree course at Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, preceding the Red by one year. It immediately supported the club’s rise within French golf. Several Blue holes later formed part of the famous Composite used for the Trophée Lancôme, Vivendi Trophy and 2025 French Open. Tournament history drove regular upgrades. The Blue shares the Versailles plain with the Red but contains more enclosed sequences among trees and former farmland. Contour is moderate. Open-looking drives often narrow through doglegs and bunker zones.

The course contains five par fives, five par threes and eight par fours, an unusual composition creating varied rhythm. Long holes are balanced by par threes of very different character. Fast greens and front bunkering require high, accurate approaches. FFGolf publishes 6,109 metres, par 72, men’s SSS 73. 2 and Slope 140. The front nine measures 2,980 metres and the back 3,129. It is marginally less difficult than the Red on paper, but firm greens and five par fives reward patient construction.

The Blue shares the private club’s historic clubhouse, dining, fitness, pool, range, short-game areas and coaching.
