Golf de Rigenée

Rigenée — Paul Rolin’s course built around education, junior golf and year-round play. It is a parkland course, developed across mature parkland and playing par 72, approximately 6,000 metres. Its identity is best understood through the relationship between landscape, architecture, ground conditions and the culture of the club.

The estate is located in Villers-la-Ville, in an open agricultural landscape gradually transformed by the plantings. Ponds, roughs, groves, and long rural vistas characterize the terrain.

Founded in 1981-82 by Caroline and Emmanuel Descampe, Rigenée was laid out by Paul Rolin on former farmland. More than thirty thousand trees were planted during the 1980s. The current course traces its opening or defining development to 1982. Design responsibility is associated with Paul Rolin. The rolling agricultural landscape of Walloon Brabant creates long views, gentle elevation changes and a climate that can shift from soft winter conditions to firmer summer fairways. Historical value is not limited to a founding date: tree growth, drainage work, bunker restoration, green reconstruction and changes in club management can all alter how a design is experienced.

Water, bunkers, rough and maturing woodland create a versatile course that remains readable for different levels. As a parkland course, it balances mature trees, open fairways, bunkering and occasional water; the best line from the tee is rarely identical to the widest line. The scorecard is par 72, approximately 6,000 metres. A complete reading must consider tee position, the preferred side of the fairway, green orientation, recovery options and the way wind or elevation changes effective distance. The strongest holes offer a playable conservative route while rewarding the golfer who accepts a more demanding line for a clearer approach. Belgian seasonal conditions can shift the emphasis from aerial carry in softer periods to bounce, run and position when the turf becomes firmer.

The course is relatively flat and playable year-round on summer greens under most conditions. Its length and hazards make it a good test for players of varying skill levels.
