At a glance
Marly is Joyenval’s championship course, a dramatic Robert Trent Jones Sr. design routed around the clubhouse, historic buildings and strongly contoured greens.
History
Joyenval was developed in the early 1990s by Gaëtan Mourgue d’Algue across a 220-hectare property connected with the Désert de Retz and former Joyenval abbey. created two complementary courses, Marly and Retz. The club opened in 1992 and rapidly became one of France’s leading private venues. Marly hosted the 2010 Vivendi Trophy. The course occupies Marly forest and historic estate ground only twenty minutes from Paris. Clearings, natural rough, woodland and water alternate, with part of the routing crossing the former abbey site. Property scale and acoustic isolation conceal the nearby metropolis.
Architecture
Marly clearly displays Robert Trent Jones signatures: carved bunkers, raised greens, risk-reward choices and strong visual definition. Greens are large, fast and heavily contoured. Holes six and seventeen share a vast double green, while the uphill par-five eighteenth is surrounded by roughly ten bunkers. The club publishes 6,177 metres and par 72, with some competition references exceeding 6,200 metres. Long approaches, animated greens and deep bunkers require a complete game. Angle and depth control matter more than power alone.
Club experience
Joyenval is strictly reserved for approximately 550 members and guests. Dining, pool, fitness, wellness, tennis, range and premium service define the club. Marly should be presented as an exceptional private course rather than a freely bookable destination. 18 holes; par 72; 6,177 metres; Robert Trent Jones Sr. , 1992; 2010 Vivendi Trophy venue; shared 6th/17th green; private access.
