At a glance
Plaine-Vallon is Caen la Mer’s competition course, a 5,986-metre par 71 combining a longer open opening half with a more rolling precise second half.
History
Fred W. Hawtree created the golf in 1990 on farmland around woodland. The original eighteen holes were divided into Plaine and Vallon, with Le Bois later expanding the estate to twenty-seven holes. The ninety-two-hectare estate lies ten minutes from Caen. Plaine is open, long and wind-exposed; Vallon moves through wooded slopes with more uneven lies. Deer, hare and birds are common.
Architecture
Hawtree created two contrasting acts: length and risk on Plaine, accuracy and approach control in Vallon. Greens, bunkers and elevation require strategy changes during the round. The official site publishes 5,986 metres and par 71. Forward tees provide accessibility, while back tees and plateau wind support competition.
Club experience
The public golf opens year-round and welcomes visitors up to handicap 54, with practice, panoramic dining, charging points, seminars, academy and paragolf school. 18 holes; par 71; 5,986 metres; Fred W. Hawtree, 1990; Plaine and Vallon sequences; 92-hectare public estate.
