Golf Barrière Deauville

Red is the first physical loop of the Diane Barrière course, nine historic holes opened in 1929 on Mont-Canisy above Deauville.

François André developed the Golf Hotel and adjoining course in the late 1920s. Tom Simpson created the original loops in 1929, with later work associated with Henry Cotton. Red and White now form the Diane Barrière course, former host of major professional events. The loop occupies slopes and plateaus above Deauville, alternating woodland, Pays d’Auge countryside and Channel views. Sea wind and elevation strongly affect effective distance.

Red contains three par threes, four par fours and two par fives. Simpson uses doglegs, angle bunkers and narrow green entrances. Correct fairway side often matters more than visual width. The current Red-White scorecard gives 2,871 metres and par 35 from white tees for this first loop. Slopes, rough and bunkering make aggressive play risky.
