Geography & setting
Falnuée Course is located in Mazy, in the Namur region, Belgium. The course unfolds within a wooded park where playing lines are drawn between trees, bunkers, and water features, complemented by undulating terrain that creates numerous sloping lies and elevation changes. This geographical reading should be supplemented by the exact nature of the soil, the altitude, the dominant exposure, winds, vegetation, visible landscapes, and the influence of seasons on playing conditions.
History
Falnuée Golf Club was founded in 1987 when the Jottrand family and a cooperative society acquired the Falnuée Farm-Château and some fifty hectares in the valleys of the Orneau and Ligne rivers. The first holes progressively opened from 1988, and the full eighteen-hole course was inaugurated in 1991. The current configuration was adjusted to a par 72 after several modifications in the early 2000s.
Architecture
The layout is organized into three distinct loops. The valley holes utilize water and slopes, the plateau holes demand more control over the wind, while the wooded sequence narrows the lines. The design prioritizes variety rather than a single architectural style.
The course in detail
Falnuée is gently undulating and relatively short, but the changes in environment make the course more technical than it appears. The two rivers frequently come into play, and greens are often better defended by angles than by length.
Club experience
The clubhouse, hotel, and brasserie occupy the restored buildings of the Farm-Château. This heritage integration gives the site a very strong identity and allows for the combination of golf, accommodation, and dining.
Highlights
Established in 1987; full course opened in 1991; Farm-Château dating back to the 13th century; three-loop course traversed by the Orneau and Ligne rivers.
