Dunkerque Golf Club

Vauban is a unique championship course built around geometry inspired by military fortifications and exposed to Flemish winds.

Created in 1987, Dunkerque Golf Club was designed by Robert Berthet on a large property near former fortified lines. The main course took the Vauban name from the military engineer who defended France’s Flemish frontier. The club later expanded into a 27-hole complex. The property covers about eighty hectares of woodland, canals, exposed plateaus and Flemish countryside. Geometric mounds, ditches, water and vegetated walls recall bastions and curtain walls. Wind frequently changes plateau difficulty.

Berthet combines parkland curves with Vauban-inspired angular shapes. Raised greens and bunkers, ditches, water and semi-blind lines create a highly visual course. Strategy requires reading the forms rather than simply aiming centrally. The course is published at 6,577 metres and par 72. It is long and exposed. Broad fairways are deceptive because water and geometry reduce truly favourable landing zones.

Facilities include covered practice with TrackMan screens, two putting greens, approach area, restaurant, pro shop, buggy hire and year-round access.
