History
Drentsche Golf & Country Club has formed part of the golfing landscape of Drenthe since 2002. The project was developed to serve regional members, visitors and competition golf. Alan Rijks played a central role in the design or later evolution. Over the years the club expanded its facilities, matured its planting and improved playing surfaces. It is now recognised as an important provincial venue with an active membership culture and a clear identity beyond its purely sporting function. The course lies at Zeijerveen in a landscape typical of Drenthe. Local soils, mature vegetation, open areas and water combine to shape the playing environment. Wind exposure changes between sections, while trees and hedges protect other holes. Geography influences firmness, drainage and the way fairways fit into the wider territory.
Architecture
The work associated with Alan Rijks places emphasis on position, angles and the sequence of shots. Fairways are readable, but the preferred landing areas often lie close to hazards. Greens are protected by bunkers, water or contour, and changing directions ensure varied wind conditions. Multiple tees maintain balance for different abilities. The course has 18 holes, plays to par 72 and measures about 6200 metres in its reference configuration. Consistency is rewarded more than power alone. Drives should preserve a useful approach angle, while distance control is essential into the greens. Conditions can encourage either running shots or more aerial play.
Club experience
Visitors are welcomed under published rules, with practice facilities, clubhouse and dining available. The atmosphere combines sporting tradition with regional hospitality. The venue can accommodate groups, competitions and business days and provides a natural stop on a golf journey through the north-east Netherlands. 18-hole course; par 72; approximately 6200 metres; developed from 2002; architecture associated with Alan Rijks; important regional venue in Drenthe.
