Dinard Golf

Dinard — an 1887 Breton links where every hole looks toward the Emerald Coast

The course is located in Saint-Briac-sur-Mer, spanning about fifty hectares of moorland, dunes, and rocky headlands overlooking the English Channel. The sea is visible from all eighteen holes, with beaches, capes, harbors, and islets serving as permanent landmarks.

Dinard Golf was founded by a small British community that settled in the region at the end of the 19th century. Scottish architect Tom Dunn completed the course in 1887, making it the second oldest golf course in France after Pau. The club subsequently endured wars, coastal transformations, and several restorations without losing its fundamental layout.

Tom Dunn utilized a short but irregular terrain, featuring undulating fairways, small elevated greens, numerous bunkers, gorse, and shots that are sometimes partially blind. The difficulty stems more from the wind and angles than from its length.

The course constantly rises and falls on very well-drained sandy soil. The greens are fast and often appear smaller than they are from the fairway.

The listed Art Deco clubhouse, the British ambiance, and its immediate proximity to the resorts of Dinard and Saint-Malo give the club a rare character. Visits remain accessible to outside players.

The Round selects it for its historical and maritime authenticity: Dinard is neither long nor artificially spectacular, but each hole tells the story of the coastline.
