Club de Campo Negro — Javier Arana’s great public championship course in sporting Madrid

The course is situated within the Casa de Campo, just a few kilometers from the center of Madrid. The undulating terrain features a mix of pines, oaks, dry ravines, and views of the capital's skyline.

The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid began developing its sports facilities in the 1930s. Javier Arana designed the current Negro course, which opened in 1956. It quickly became one of Spain's premier championship venues.

Arana crafted a natural layout, characterized by elevation changes, relatively small greens, and a conservative use of bunkers. The holes follow the contours of the land rather than forcing a design upon it.

The par 71 course is not exceptionally long, but the sloping lies, firm greens, and varied terrain present a genuine championship challenge.

The multisport club includes golf, tennis, hockey, polo and equestrian facilities close to central Madrid.
