Geography & setting
The English Course is located in Nivelles, in the Walloon Brabant region of Belgium. The course winds through a wooded park where the lines of play are defined by trees, bunkers, and water features. This geographical description should be complemented by details on the exact nature of the soils, altitude, dominant exposure, winds, vegetation, visible landscapes, and the influence of the seasons on playing conditions.
History
L'Anglais is the historic course at La Tournette, designed by Martin Hawtree, and later enhanced by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark. It offers a more traditional approach than L'Américain and is integrated into the higher parts of the estate.
Architecture
Hawtree designed an open parkland course with a British feel: generous fairways, pot bunkers, technical greens, and multiple lines of play influenced by the wind. Subsequent modifications reinforced the angles and approaches.
The course in detail
The course features 18 holes, with a par of 72, and measures approximately 6200 meters from the championship tees. The course skillfully utilizes its parkland environment to shape angles, obstacles, and approaches to the greens.
Club experience
L'Anglais is often the members' preferred course for its balance and more classic style. It shares the estate's full range of facilities.
Highlights
Designed by Martin Hawtree; improvements by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark; par 71; approximately 6,100 meters; wind-exposed plateau course.
