Avernas Golf Club

An English-style nine-hole course by Martin Hawtree, well drained and positioned between Brussels and Liège.

Avernas Golf Club was founded in 1989 around a nine-hole course designed by British architect Martin Hawtree. The club later added a six-hole compact course, illuminated practice and meeting spaces. Its location near the E40 gives it an easily accessible regional role. The course lies close to the boundary between Flanders and Wallonia in the open Hesbaye landscape. Windswept plains and excellent drainage suit Belgian weather conditions.

Hawtree’s design is clearly readable, with tree-lined fairways and varied holes. The ninth is an approximately 383-metre par four with a slight dogleg, finishing before the clubhouse between two bunkers. The loop measures about 2,674 metres for nine holes. It is not excessively long, but wind, doglegs and defended greens create a genuine test.
