Augusta National — Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie creating the permanent stage of the Masters

The site is located in Georgia on very undulating terrain, covered with pines, magnolias, azaleas, and old nursery trees.

Augusta National was founded in 1932 by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts on the former Fruitland Nursery. Alister MacKenzie designed the course with Jones. The Masters has been played there annually since 1934.

MacKenzie favored width, angles, slopes, and large, complex greens. Subsequent modifications have increased length and difficulty, but the original strategic lines remain visible.

The elevation changes are much more significant than they appear on television. Amen Corner, the firm greens, and the sloped lies define the test.

The club is extremely private. During the Masters, the organization and presentation of the site reach a unique level in global golf.
