Tom Mackenzie

Tom Mackenzie belongs to the British generation that made masterplanning and restoration central activities of contemporary architecture. After training in landscape and course design disciplines, he joined Donald Steel’s practice. There he gained extensive experience of historic clubs, international projects and the diplomacy required to alter a course with a powerful identity. He met Martin Ebert there and later formed Mackenzie & Ebert with him. The practice, established in 2005, became a principal adviser to major British and Irish links. Mackenzie contributes to analysis of early plans, aerial photographs, development scenarios and club consultation. A masterplan is not simply a list of works. It provides a multi-year vision, establishes priorities and prevents a sequence of small decisions from damaging strategic coherence.
