Adare Manor

Adare Manor — a championship course rebuilt to exacting standards beside the River Maigue

The course unfolds within the historic parkland of Adare Manor, in County Limerick, alongside the River Maigue. The ancient trees, meadows, estate walls, and the silhouette of the manor house shape a highly controlled parkland landscape.

The original Adare Manor course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1995. Following the acquisition of the estate by J. P. McManus in 2015, Tom Fazio was commissioned to completely rebuild the golf course. The project was not a mere renovation: the ground, drainage, greens, bunkers, and fairways were all thoroughly revamped. The new course opened in 2018 and is set to host the Ryder Cup in 2027.

Fazio designed wide fairways where the optimal lines are defined by deep bunkers, internal slopes, and angles towards elevated greens. The surfaces are constructed to withstand heavy rains, featuring advanced drainage and a SubAir system. The quality of preparation allows for an unusual firmness for an Irish parkland course.

The course measures over 7,500 yards from the back tees. The holes offer multiple lines from the tee and sufficient space to accommodate a major event. The river directly influences several sequences, particularly towards the end of the round.

The experience is that of an ultra-premium resort: accommodation in the manor, the Carriage House clubhouse, caddies, practice facilities, and an exceptionally high level of preparation. Access to the course is primarily associated with staying at the resort.

The Round selects it as an example of a contemporary championship course built without technical compromise and designed from its reconstruction for the biggest events.
